Favorite theatre?

Post by hatterlet on Wed Apr 07, 2010 9:54 pm

Since most of us seem to be theatrically minded people and in a blatant attempt to spur some conversation, what are some of everyone's favorite shows?

I'm very partial to Phantom of the Opera, even though I've never seen it on stage. I also adore Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, which I've been in once and seen four times. I'm going to see Hairspray for the first time tomorrow, and Wicked in May.

Anyone else?

I love theater, but the biggest problem for me is that all plays and musicals here are in Dutch, and that sounds horrible >< Messes up all the awesome lyrics.
But I think I'll go to Wicked anyway <3

I've heard lots of great things about Phantom of the Opera, I'd love to see that one day.

Hairspray sounds great, I've never even seen the movie, but I love 60s music. And the story's good from what I've heard. Let us know how it was!

I saw a abridged performance of The Little Mermaid when I was living in Japan. All the songs were in English, but the dialogue was Japanese. o_0. It was fun anyway.

My dad spends most of his time over there. He says all the shows are like that. The Japanese have this wierd thing for icons, so they are reluctant to change the very iconic music, I guess. I have a bunch of posters from Japanese plays though- Phantom, Wicked, Annie, Lion King.

I didn't learn much japanese. Just enough to be able to order at McDonalds. And apologize.

Gomenasai- I'm sorry. Sumimasen- Excuse me. Interchangeable at times.

Annie is lovely. One of my lifetime ambitions is to play Ms. Hannigan. I think I could do it. I had a dream where I fought Kathy Bates in a sing-off for the part. And Kristen Chenowith was the judge. No Smile

Hairspray is amazing. I saw it in Vegas with Harvey Fierstein (the ORIGINAL, at least so far as musical version is concerned, Mrs. Turnbladd). He was amazing. Phantom of the Opera rules, I still haven't seen Wicked (I want to soooo badly), saw The Producers (with Tony Danza as Max Bialystock. He was actually pretty good) and uh...

I actually hate Annie. I love the song "Hard Knock Life" and "Little Girls" is awesome, but the show as a whole I can't stand. Same for Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat.

I don't think I would like either of them except I was a child when I was in both of them. I can still sing the entire soundtrack to both of them. ( I was as big of a theatre buff back then as I am now.)
